A June 6, 2005, NGF News Release stated that the number of core golfers dropped 4.7% in 2004. Core golfers, those playing at least 8 rounds annually, represent 47% of all golfers but represent 91% of rounds played and 87% of golf related spending."

NGF figures indicate that the core golfers plays 37 rounds per year and spends $3,000 on golf related spending. If one kid who starts playing golf in 2006 becomes a core golfer, that kid is worth 2,200 rounds and $180,000 (in today's dollars) in golf related spending the next 60 years. If only 15% of the golf courses in the US and Canada (about 3,000) were to have a kids play golf free program, and if each of those courses had only 5 kids start playing in 2006 and become core golfers, Those kids would play 33 million rounds and generate $2.7 billion in golf related revenue over the next 60 years. This can be repeated year after year."
